New GEM Report: Women 47% More Likely Than Men to Close Business Due to Family or Personal Reasons

The new Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2024/2025 Women’s Entrepreneurship Report: Navigating Challenges, Driving Change shows that while women continue to demonstrate resilience and innovation, they still face persistent barriers that limit their full participation in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
This year’s report – drawing on insights from 161,528 adults across 51 countries – highlights several of these barriers, including the reasons women and men give for closing a business. I
n 2024, women were 47% more likely than men to close a business for family or personal reasons, underscoring the ongoing tension many women face in balancing entrepreneurship with caregiving and household responsibilities.

Transnational Training Models for Fostering Young Women's Entrepreneurship Support

The Transnational Training Models for Fostering YWE Women in Business is a methodology and guide on enhancing entrepreneurial skills through a needs assessment approach. This methodology applies to women especially, but not only. It is informed by studies and interviews which identify the barriers that women face the most, such as the competencies barrier or the lack of information about how to start a business, followed by a lack of entrepreneurial skills, uncertainty about the future in case of starting own business, followed by the risk of losing the balance between work and personal life. Not surprisingly, financing and budgeting was the business field where most respondents would like to improve. The guide then proceeds to build training models that rely on three main sets of skills: Soft, Business/Entrepreneurial and Digital.
